Parish Wizard 11 September 2024

Once upon a time there was a parish with many huge needs. One good day a wizard knocked at the parish door. The gatekeeper told the wizard about all the problems of the parish. Then he spoke: "Can you help us?"
The wizard showed a sympathetic smile and answered, "What can I do? I am only a wizard."
Of course you will recognize the film, "The Wizard Of Oz".

Wizards In The Parish

a) Laity. Of coarse, the average lay person is not even a wizard. What can he do for a parish. Not much. He is not a consecrated minister.
b) The Priest. He might be seen as the parish wizard. He might say, "I can pray, but I am not God."
c) Is God a part of the Parish? I take the freedom to answer with a "Yes.". But when lately asked, God said, "What can I do? I am only in heaven. I have a appointed my disciples."

Miracle Workers

The wizard of Oz, alone could do little. He turned the helpless people into a team of actors.

Prayer

Jesus, please wake up wizards in our midst to transform our parishes and communities.
