Matthew 20:29-30. Blind in the Crowd 1 Sep 2023

Mat 20:29 As they left Jericho a large crowd followed him.
30 And now there were two blind men sitting at the side of the road.
When they heard that it was Jesus who was passing by,
they shouted,
'Lord! Have pity on us, son of David.'

Jesus and his disciples approach Jerusalem. Departing Jericho leaves a 35 km walk to reach Jerusalem. A large crowd follows him. What do the people expect? I am not sure. The author, Matthew, skillfully prepares the reader for a climax. It is short before Easter. And there it sounds, 'Lord, son of David.' And a, 'Have pity on us.' The voices of two blind men. Those two men had a clear hope.

Prayer

Jesus, have pity on me. I need your Holy Spirit to purify my heart.
