Engineers are supposed to measure. We measure physical quantities. In older times a measure was used as a standard for e.g. a certain kind of grain.

A measure for how we will be treated

Matthew 7:2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Luke 6:38 Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap; because the standard you use will be the standard used for you.

Old people in the Netherlands

I know some people who really struggle with being old. They miss younger ones to relate to. Most time they are alone. They feel no more useful in this world.

I am really concerned how we will give meaning to old people's lives in the coming years. In 20 years time there will be many more old people in my country and few younger people to care for them. A question comes to my mind: How will I be repaid, if I do not build NOW a culture of participating in the care for older people?

I think we need to re-integrate older people in our neighbourhoods and in our lives. Perhaps even in our offices.
