Jesus Invites 13 October 2024

It is my special day. Finally after a long search I find Jesus. It is a lovely day and Jesus has plenty of time. I sit at his feet.
I ask Him: 'Good master, what shall I do to have a good life?'
The master smiles. He seems to understand me. He seems to know me. He talks about my life.

And then, unexpectedly He invites me: "William, go home and sell all your possessions. Give the money to the poor. Then come back and follow me."

How Would I Respond?

First, I would check whether it is really Jesus who speaks to me. It is Jesus himself, who warns about false messiahs (e.g. Matthew 24:24). This discerning might not be easy.

Next, I would check whether I have obligations. I do have a wife. What about her? I may have some commitments. What about those?
When I would die, however, I as well can no more care for those things. I would ask Jesus who would care (especially) for my wife?

It will be very hard to sell my house in just a couple of days. I would tell Jesus.

I could seek a couple of poor persons, and hand over a huge sum of money to them. Would that be wise?
I could advertise, that I would hand out money to the poor at a certain day and time? I rather would like to handle the giving more discrete.
Giving to the poor should be easy? Giving with love might be a little harder. Giving without love would be obedient and probably very acceptable given the urgency.

Stress

With all the stress of the selling and giving to the poor, Jesus may have left before I am ready.
How can I find Jesus again? And how can I follow Him?

Prayer

Jesus, here I am.
