The new testament does not give the name of the mother of Solomon. It however honors the name of Uriah, her husband. Why would that be? Technically speaking, Uriah was not an ancestor of Jesus. At least not in the western world thinking.

Uriah was faithful to Israel. He honored service to his master (David) more than sleeping with his wife. Finally he gave his life and his wife for the unfaithfulness of David. No wonder that he has been given a place in the genealogy of Jesus.

Prayer

God, teach me to serve you as Uriah served David.

I took time to reflect on the question why the name of Uriah was listed. He was a man with an exemplary character.
