What is a priest?

With reading in the first chapters of the bible priests appear in the midst of some mystery. In Genesis we only find one priest of God named: Melchizedek. He pronounced blessing. And Abraham gave him 10% of everything he had.

Exodus 19:6 says to Israel: If you obey my commands, you will be a kingdom of priests. And in verse 22 the priests are described as the men who approach Yahweh, God.

Priests are described as consecrated and they are supposed to approach God in a clean condition.

Priests intercede for me and you.

The priest stands between me and God (Ex 19:22.) He presents my case before God. And also he presents God's case to me.

Jesus is the ultimate high priest. He is my teacher. And I am supposed to obey His teaching. If so, then Jesus will speak blessing over me.

Interesting is that God says to a nation: If you obey my commands, you will be a kingdom of priests.

Perhaps if we do not obey God's commands, there may be few priests in the nation.
