1Timothy 1:5-7. Painful Correction 17 May 2025

1Ti 1:5 The final goal at which this instruction aims is love,
issuing from a pure heart,
a clear conscience
and a sincere faith.
6 Some people have missed the way to these things
and turned to empty speculation,
7 trying to be teachers of the Law;
but they understand neither the words they use
nor the matters about which they make such strong assertions.

Painful

To be corrected is painful. Therefore Paul expects Timothy and others in authority to act with love, a pure heart and a clear conscience. None of those are easy during a disagreement

All Knowing

At times, it seems as though Paul refuses to accept correction from others, positioning himself as the ultimate authority. This leaves me with a lingering sense of unease. Growth, learning, and openness to feedback are essential for everyone—they form the foundation of a clear conscience.
When someone makes strong assertions but is unwilling to listen to others, they may lack a true understanding of the subject. Such a person is not yet ready to be a teacher, as teaching requires receptiveness and humility. Otherwise, they risk becoming indoctrinators rather than educators.

Prayer

Jesus, teach me about the miracle of healthy and loving correction.
