I realize that I just use the NJB translation for some Greek. But an evangelical NIV translation uses 'teaching' or 'tradition' in the footnotes.

Passing On Traditions

The NT Bible is not just a easy, simple text. We may be sure there is a long standing tradition in translating and interpreting such texts.
