Naaman: A Humble Leader 9 Mar 2026

Naaman's story can be read in the bible: 2 Kings 5. It is a full chapter. The story has great beauty and shows a humble leader. He is not even an Israelite.

Naaman had gotten leprosy. In his time it was an uncurable sickness leading to isolation and dis-figuration. He was a man without future.

Examples of his humility

1. Naaman could listen to sugestions from his servant.
2. Naaman could listen to hard to believe ideas of a foreign slave girl. B.t.w. the slave girl wished her master well.
3. Naaman did not seek himself for the prophet. He asked humble advice of the king of Israel. He asked 'politely' to the king to heal him.
4. When Naaman had been treated 'inhospitable' by the prophet and turned down the instructions, he could still listen to wise comments of his polite servant.
5. After correction, he could execute a simple ritual.

And as usual in his life, he got success.

Prayer

Jesus, help me to become a humble servant willing to take simple instructions. Even when they are coming from unexpected sources.
