Matthew 10:34-37. No Peace 28 Mar 2023

Mat 10:34 Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth:
it is not peace I have come to bring, but a sword.
35 For I have come to set son against father,
daughter against mother, daughter-in-law against mother-in-law;
36 a person's enemies will be the members of his own household.
37 No one who prefers father or mother to me is worthy of me.
No one who prefers son or daughter to me is worthy of me.

It is not an easy message. Does Jesus only speak to his disciples or apostles? I do not think so. If any value hinders me to follow Jesus, in the eternal or earthly life, would that not separate me from Jesus?

Prayer

Jesus, if something separates me from you, please talk to me.

Self Evaluation

What would I do when my wife hinders me to follow Jesus? Interestingly, wife and husband are not mentioned in the verses 34-37.
A small comment: usually it is not others who are responsible for my choices in life. I am responsible.
