Mat 10:16 Look, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves;
so be cunning as snakes and yet innocent as doves.

Jesus speaks, I assume, for the nearby journey and as well for journeys much later. Remember, the disciples were ordered to bring almost nothing for the journey. And as such they were vulnerable: 'sheep among wolves.' First they are assumed to act wise and smart. At the same time they should not intimidate and irritate others. In Dutch language we have a saying that preventing is better than healing.

Jesus, teach me Emotional Intelligence.
