PSALM 120 - Road to Peace 1 Mar 2020
When I am hurt by another person, usually my neighbour, my first response is to revenge. When I have been wounded emotionally, for some "not logical" reason I like to hurt others in the same way as I have been hurt. Anger calls for more anger. Hate calls for more hate. Jealousy calls for more jealousy. In psalm 120,7 it says: "When I speak of peace, they are all for war."
Towards Jerusalem
I am on my way to Jerusalem, city of peace. The treacherous tongues speak in my mind. I remember. I like to revenge. But God in me likes peace. I turn my heart to this God of Peace. On my journey I sing of my Redeemer.
Psalm 120
1 [Song of Ascents
The Songs of Ascents (Pss 120-134)
were sung by pilgrims on their way up to Jerusalem.]
To Yahweh when I am in trouble
I call and he answers me.
2 Yahweh, save me from lying lips
and a treacherous tongue!
3 What will he repay you,
what more, treacherous tongue?
4 War-arrows made sharp over red-hot charcoal.
5 How wretched I am, living in Meshech,
dwelling in the tents of Kedar!
6 Too long have I lived among people who hate peace.
7 When I speak of peace they are all for war!
