1 Corinthians 11:13-15 Nature Teaching? 2 June 2024

1Co 11:13 Decide for yourselves: does it seem fitting that a woman should pray to God without a veil? 14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15 but when a woman has long hair, it is her glory? After all, her hair was given to her to be a covering.

Saint Paul begins with, 'Decide for yourselves.' That does not sound like a major commandment.

Why Praying With Veil?

In my opinion, prayer should not be emotionless. I assume politely that saint Paul talks about praying in a worship setting.

Just some thoughts:
a) When I pray, I may show my emotions to God. Women may be a step more emotional than men.
b) The praying woman talks to another man with whom she is not married. (Jesus, God)
c) When in public, women wear veils, why then not in a church?
d) A praying woman may stand in front of all others. And easily some men could be attracted.

Prayer

Jesus, grant us wisdom in all relating.
