Isaiah 26 Jun 2018
Does it ring a bell?
For those who do not know who Isaiah was: You may know a few of his sayings. This man just lived some 2600 years back.
Isaiah's words may sound in various Christmas songs. He announced the coming of Jesus Christ.
Calling
He speaks about a heavenly vision where the angels proclaimed: "Holy, holy, holy is Yahweh Sabaoth. His glory fills the whole earth." Isaiah responded: "Woe to me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the king, Yaweh Sabaoth." A Seraph (angel) touched his lips with a hot coal and said: "Look, this has touched your lips, your guilt has been removed and your sin forgiven."
Me too, I am a man of unclean lips.
Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord: "Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?" And he answered: "Here am I, send me."
Bad and Good news
Isaiah was commanded to bring bad news, in response to Israels people who had sinned: caused damage to the land. But Isaiah was as well called to proclaim God's goodness, greatness and faithfulness. And this in very beautiful words.
What can we learn from this?
God has a plan and is more than able to execute it. Israel was scattered; Jesus came.
God is willing to forgive our sins. God has plans for people. God has a future where we do not see a future.
God invites all ...
We may respond and perhaps be blessed with magnificent words and some magnificent task.
And for Isaiah it all began with a dream. I love dreams.
