Canon Law 212 $3 Lay Prophecy 19 July 2026
Can. 212 §3. According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they possess,
they have the right and even at times the duty
to manifest to the sacred pastors
their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church
and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful,
without prejudice to the integrity of faith and morals,
with reverence toward their pastors,
and attentive to common advantage and the dignity of persons.
Prophetic?
If any persons speaks a message with some chance that it is inspired by the Holy Spirit,
the hearers and especially the pastors,
have the duty to discern weather the message or a part of the message is inspired by the Holy Spirit.
It is very hard for the speaker to express that he or she speaks under inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Discerning Is Communicating
Too often hard messages are ignored and not discerned.
And it is painful for a speaker to be ignored.
Good listeners have the skill to express what they have been hearing and whether there might be some truth in the message.
It is a very different thing how they are going to act.
It is friendly to respond that the idea is valued,
but that the community is not yet ready to act on it.
Prayer
Jesus, teach and instruct your lay-prophets. Guide your pastors into proper discernment.
