In the bible God instructs at two places that the people need to learn to do everything He had commanded. That seems to me an instruction to a 'people', not for a single person. Nevertheless everything that matters needs to be done for a successful organization.
The specific scriptures are
- In the book of Exodus God told Moses to 'teach the people to do all He had commanded.
- Matthew 28,18-21 "Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said,
'All authority in heav
en and on earth has been given to me. 19.Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20.and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And look, I am with you always; yes, to the end of time."
... I will come with a more accurate quotation from Exodus; could not find it in a couple of minutes.
Teach the people
That signifies that we do not know well enough how to 'do' the things God commanded. And I believe that teaching ought to be a lifelong process.Teach them to DO
It is not just knowing the commandments. I am supposed to do them. If not I am a hypocrite. I know what I am supposed to do; I talk about it and tell others to do so. But I myself fail to do it. Excuses can be found in plenty. The responsibility is mine! Or perhaps ... not only mine.
To do ALL
This is a theme I really like. And it is much related to growing and learning. Any healthy persons and organizations should care for all that hurts, causes trouble or matters to ensure a meaningful future.
The instruction is to a people
The instruction to do all reminds me to the story of Adam in the garden of Eden. God instructed Adam to care for a Garden with the size of 10% of the Middle East. The poor man! How could he do that with his wife Eva? I think that Adam had been given an impossible task. To do All God had commanded is an impossible task for individuals.
I believe that I am called into the 'people of God'. Actually that is one of the meaning of Israel. Called together by God. God gives a variety of gifts and talents to His people to perform a task: To care for a 'garden' like Adam. We are supposed to care for the Kingdom of God.
What differs the kingdom of God from Utopia?
God's kingdom needs to grow. God has planted the seed in us. He is willing to water. He sends us a helper: the Holy Spirit. And now we have a choice:Am I willing to do all God has commanded? ... Together with the community where God called me into?
I feel that we need to dream about our beautiful 'garden' and discuss our needs for building a kingdom where we feel home and safe.
