Zechariah. High Priest Accused. 3:1-2. 17 January 2025

Zec 3:1 He then showed me the high priest Joshua,
standing before the angel of Yahweh,
with Satan standing on his right to accuse him.
2 The angel of Yahweh said to Satan,
'May Yahweh rebuke you, Satan! May Yahweh rebuke you, since he has made Jerusalem his choice. Is not this man a brand snatched from the fire?'

Can You Believe It?

Notice:
1. The high priest (Joshua) is stands before the angel of Yahweh.
2. Satan is standing next to the high priest in the presence of the angel of Yahweh.
3. The high priest was to be accused.

What Happened?

1. I am not sure whether Satan had begun (or not) his accusations.
2. Did Satan have any basis for his accusation? Perhaps yes, perhaps no. Nevertheless, many are afraid of Satan's accusations.
3. Then the angel speaks, in favor of Jerusalem AND the high priest. He argues, 'for God has chosen', even when the high priest was perhaps not blameless.

Prayer

Jesus, have mercy on me and the church in my city and their priests.
