Matthew 5:27-28. Lust. 9 Jan 2023

Mat 5:27 You have heard how it was said, You shall not commit adultery. 28 But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

It is where it starts. And that is long before the actual 'sin'. It starts with a mindset, a desire. A desire to possess something I actually can't have.

How can I commit adultery with an unmarried woman, just by 'lusting' for a woman?
The problem might be, when I look in the same way to any woman. As an object for my lust. And lust can't be satisfied. Lust is an enemy of love.

And still a warning. A "lust" cannot be simply ignored. In a way, it needs to be satisfied. However not at the cost of someone else.
Lust may be related to the idea that I have not enough of something. Which is a lie, that I am telling myself. I need to learn that I can live without possessing the objects of my lusts. And when I am free and thus lovable, I find life. The world around me will observe that.
In the process towards freedom, I may need professional help.

Prayer

Jesus, set me free from each lust that robs me from friendship.
