Song of Solomon: Rapture 6 May 2020

Sol 6:11-12

11 I went down to the nut orchard
to see the fresh shoots in the valley,
to see if the vines were budding
and the pomegranate trees in flower.
12 Before I knew . . .
my desire had hurled me onto the chariots of Amminadib!

Rapture

Rapture is an evangelical concept describing an end time event. The community of believers may be raptured, displaced.
But here the Lover - God - is displaced on a chariot. One of the fastest ways of transporting in the biblical time. And that happened and was powered by His desire. Next in Sol 7 we find the Lover singing about the beauty of the beloved.

Initiate God's Desire

God went to His garden, the nut orchard. That reminds me to paradise. He went there to see. To see new life. Fresh shoots. Budding vines. Trees in flower. Those things displaced God in ecstasy. Moved God into activity. It opened His heart.
Now the garden, allegorically his beloved, is Israel, the church and the people God has brought together. God desires new life. Acts of love. I believe He expects a communal love.
A love where the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit blossom.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given for the good of the community. They are (supposed to be) powerful expressions. Tools to build community and to bring forth new life. It is absolutely needed that I (and my community) accept and trust the gifts of God.
Today I ask God to inspect the fresh shoots, budding vines and 'trees in flower' in my garden (community). Holy Spirit, blow! That the seeds may spread.
