But 6 Jul 2019
Pretty often I hear myself using the word BUT. I realize that I frequently interrupt people and contradict them. The usage of the word BUT may be easily interpreted as a rejection of the previous speaker.
Why not AND?
Often it is possible to replace the BUT by AND. Both statements can have a positive meaning.
I want to be home at dinner time, but I need to work longer to finish a few things.
This sentence can be changed to:
I want to be home at dinner time and I want to work longer to finish a few things. Now it is clear that I need to make a choice among two good things.
But Today ...
I always thought that I am terrible with drawing, and today I surprised myself with publishing a drawing of a person. I have learned that I do not have to be perfect.
