Matthew 7:9-11. Bread and Fish. 13 Feb 2023
Mat 7:9 Is there anyone among you,
who would hand his son a stone when he asked for bread?
10 Or would hand him a snake when he asked for a fish?
11 If you, then, evil as you are,
know how to give your children what is good,
how much more will your Father in heaven
give good things to those who ask him!
First, I am not a father at all. Certainly not a good father.
Second, when my wife Millet asks for a grace, I am still not generous. I however listen. And that is a good start. For frequently I soon enough realize that she simply needs what she asks for.
Third, Jesus' "evil as you are", certainly applies to me.
a) Bread could be the 'Bread of Life', being Jesus himself.
b) A fish ... that could be what fisherman catch. A harvest for the kingdom.
Prayer
Father God, today I ask you for Bread and a Fish, for good things which you love to give.
Self Evaluation
Perhaps I ask God frequently for not so good gifts. A small comment: both bread and fish are the objects of the miraculous multiplications where Jesus fed the multitudes.
