PSALM 53 - Israel waits for a Redeemer 24 Dec 2019

Psalm 14 and 53 are almost similar. Like most modern nations Israel has many people who fit in the pattern of those psalms, "There is no God". A friend of me who studied in Israel says that quite some Jews are unkind. Now this is usual in most nations, but I was shocked to hear the force of her statement. The psalms speak about "vile and unjust" There is no more offering in the temple of Israel - they never will call upon God.

A curse?

The psalm almost sounds (see my comment on psalm 52 yesterday) as a curse over Israel. The text remembers to the state of the state Israel nowadays. I like to pray!

A prayer for Israel

Dear Lord Jesus, Jacob needs light. Your light.
Make Israel shine in fresh ways as a light for the nations.
Let your people discover the joy of your salvation.
Change their hearts. Redeem them from the burden of centuries of persecution.
May Isarel receive a fresh desire for their creator.
Where Israel has been cursed by other nations by repeated cursing prayers and statements of millions of people: Jesus you as redeemer break the unjust curse. And where Israel does have guilt, help them to reconcile with people whom they themselves have hurted or hated.
Come Holy Spirit, give the churches insight how to pray for your people Israel. Restore them in your Love.
I thank you, thank you Jesus for what you do for Israel. And through Israel, please bless all Nations. Stop the curses.

Psalm 53

The fool has said in his heart,
'There is no God!'
They are corrupt,
vile and unjust,
not one of them does right.
2 God looks down from heaven at the children of Adam,
to see if a single one is wise,
a single one seeks God.
3 All have proved faithless,
all alike turned sour,
not one of them does right,
not a single one.
4 Are they not aware,
these evil-doers?
They are devouring my people;
this is the bread they eat,
and they never call upon God.
5 They will be gripped with fear,
just where there is no need for fear,
for God scatters the bones of him who besieges you;
they are mocked because God rejects them.
6 Who will bring from Zion salvation for Israel?
When God brings his people home,
what joy for Jacob,
what happiness for Israel!
