1 Corinthians 15:30-33 Why Working For The Kingdom? 18 August 2024

1Co 15:30 And what about us?
Why should we endanger ourselves every hour of our lives?
31 I swear by the pride that I take in you,
in Christ Jesus our Lord,
that I face death every day.
32 If I fought wild animals at Ephesus in a purely human perspective,
what had I to gain by it?
33 If the dead are not going to be raised,
then Let us eat and drink,
for tomorrow we shall be dead.

Not just Saint Paul should ask himself questions. What do I gain from doing God's work? First, I am not God and I am unable to His work. I am prompted however, to participate in His work. God said to Adam, 'Care for the garden.'

What Did Saint Paul Gain?

If there would be no reward, I would say, that he behaved foolishly. First, there is an eternal life. Mostly by faith in Christ and baptism I earn an entrance right. I could be denied by disobedience to God's instruction to me personally.

Way more positive, I believe there is a reward for hard working. I feel more satisfied from the work of my hands then from eating and drinking. I expect that in the eternal life I will be more satisfied when I have worked hard in this world, then when I have been lazy. I am not totally sure. I do have a sense that there will be some form of reward.

Prayer

Jesus, Thank you for this life and for the eternal life.
