Mat 20:20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons
came with her sons to make a request of him,
and bowed low;
Mat 20:21 and he said to her,
'What is it you want?'
She said to him,
'Promise that these two sons of mine
may sit one at your right hand
and the other at your left in your kingdom.'

Reading those verses stirs up my irritation. Why would the mother of the two sons come with this request? Being irritated or feeling prejudice, blinds me for the more interesting details.

The mother of the sons did something remarkable. Jesus just had announced the end of his earthly ministry to her sons. And now the mother requests a good position in the coming kingdom. Pretty smart.

Notice, she bowed low. Jesus expected her to make a request. She invited Jesus to make a promise.
