Why Not? 26 Aug 2020
The church in the Netherlands and many countries appears to be in trouble. Despite a climate where the church easily could grow, it does not happen. I am wondering why not.
I know the scripture Psalms 127:1
Unless the LORD builds the house,
The builders labor in vain.
And I had asked God: 'Why are you not building the house?'
A Possible Answer
This morning I read Isa 41:19-20:
I shall plant the desert with cedar trees, acacias, myrtles and olives;
in the wastelands I shall put cypress trees, plane trees and box trees side by side;
so that people may see and know,
so that they may all observe and understand that the hand of Yahweh has done this,
that the Holy One of Israel has created it.
Trees in the desert are strange. It is even more strange when trees coming from all kind of places in the world grow at one place. God may do the impossible, so that his hand may be seen.
So that the church may be recognized as the work of God. Actually the church will precede a bigger thing: the Kingdom of God.
Presently the church may be so divided that no-one believes that it can be brought into a unity, whatever that might be.
Let us pray that God's hand, the heavenly builder's hand, starts to reshape his beloveth, the church. He has promised to do it.
